    Immediate Release

Matilda International Hospital launches a community postnatal midwifery service as an extension of our renowned maternity service, bringing the unique care and support new mums receive during their hospital stay into their home. The Matilda community midwives provide home visits up to eight weeks after birth providing professional support and assistance whilst equipping new mums with the knowledge and skills to care for new baby and themselves with confidence.

Sing Chu, Maternity Manager of the Matilda International Hospital said, “Our midwifery team are highly trained healthcare professionals who offer support and practical guidance during labour, advocate early bonding through skin to skin contact, support breastfeeding and involve partners throughout the journey. Now on returning home new mums can access valuable advice and personalized care that they received with us during the hospital stay.”

A study conducted in Norway in 2017 indicates that home visits by local midwives may contribute to women being able to cope with the new circumstances in their lives. Many of the women in the study reported that they felt confident in discussing their emotions and experiences. One of the interviewees expressed that it felt just like having a friend visiting, a friend who also has the knowledge. Another interviewee described that “I feel quite a lot more trust in the midwife, it’s because I know that she’s a midwife, she knows about me too, not just the baby.”

The Matilda community midwifery team are registered midwives in Hong Kong and can guide ladies as they adjust to becoming a new mum, assess and offer professional evidence-based advice on their well-being and home safety, support breast feeding, and provide an important link when needed to the family’s paediatrician, obstetrician and other healthcare professionals.

The community postnatal midwifery service covers Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories with the service charge starting at $1,650 per visit (around one hour). Matilda clients can contact the staff during hospitalization. Alternatively, ladies can book by calling 2849 0321 or email This email address is being protected from spambots.
