    Thyroidectomy

    Thyroidectomy is a surgical removal of all or part of the thyroid gland to treat thyroid disorders such as goitre, hyperthyroidism, or thyroid cancer, using advanced tools like bipolar forceps or harmonic scalpels. 

    The procedure is tailored to the patient’s condition. A total thyroidectomy involves removing the entire gland, often recommended for thyroid cancer or severe hyperthyroidism. A partial thyroidectomy, or lobectomy, removes only the affected portion and is suitable for benign nodules or smaller goitres.

    Thyroidectomy is typically performed under general anaesthesia, and advanced surgical tools ensure precision, minimizing blood loss and reducing the risk of complications. The surgery may include a nerve monitor to protect the recurrent laryngeal nerve, which controls vocal cord movement, ensuring post-operative voice quality.
