Update on Measles

Immunisation against measles is the most effective way to prevent the disease. If you have not had a measles vaccination (usually given together with mumps and rubella vaccines as MMR vaccine), and would like to have such protection before travelling to affected areas, it is best to consult a doctor to discuss the need. A blood test may be required prior to your vaccination if you are not sure about your antibody status.

The vaccine is temporarily out of stock. We urge travellers to monitor the situation, exercise caution when travelling to the affected area.

The health authority of Hong Kong considered the following groups to be non-immune to measles

  1. not having received two doses of measles-containing vaccine;
  2. not confirmed to have measles infection in the past.
