The management and staff of Matilda International Hospital (MIH) are firmly committed to meeting your needs by providing high quality hospital services. As a patient of MIH you are entitled to:
Receive treatment without discrimination as to race, colour, religion, sex, disability, or sexual orientation.
Receive considerate and respectful care in a clean and safe environment free of unnecessary restraints.
Request a nurse escort during consultation or examination by your doctor.
Be informed of the name and position of the doctor who will be responsible for your care in the hospital.
Know the names, positions and functions of the hospital staff involved in your care, and refuse their treatment, examination or observation, if you so choose.
Receive information about your diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.
Receive the information that you need to give informed consent to any proposed procedure or treatment. This information shall include the risks and benefits of the procedure or treatment.
Refuse treatment, and to be told what effect this may have on your health.
Refuse to participate in teaching programmes.
Privacy while in the hospital, and confidentiality of information and records regarding your care.
Participate in decisions about your treatment and eventual discharge from the hospital.
Review your medical record without charge, and obtain a copy of your medical record for which MIH may charge a reasonable fee.
Be informed of any public health measures taken by the hospital to protect your health.
Receive an itemised bill and explanation of charges on request. Before any treatment begins you may ask for detailed costs.
Complain without fear of reprisals about the care and services you are receiving and to have a staff member of MIH respond to you.
Authorise family members (and other adults who will be given priority) to visit, consistent with your ability to receive visitors.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
As a client at MIH, you have the right to be treated with care, consideration and dignity. Just as you have rights, you also have responsibilities to:
Discuss with your doctor any problems which you feel may be affecting your health or medical condition.
Answer questions about your health frankly and honestly.
Discuss with MIH and your doctors the expected charges for treatment and the payment arrangement before admission.
Show consideration for the rights of other patients and heal care providers.
Not ask health care providers to provide incorrect information, receipts or certificates.
Charter for Children in Hospital
Children shall be admitted to hospital only if the care they require cannot be provided equally well at home or on a day basis.
Children in hospital shall be able to have their parents with them at all times, provided this is in the child's best interests. Accommodation shall be offered to all parents whenever possible and they should be helped and encouraged to stay. In order to share in the care of their child, parents shall be fully informed about ward routines and their active participation shall be encouraged.
Children shall enjoy the care of appropriately trained staff who are fully aware of the physical and emotional needs of each age group.
Children shall be cared for with other children of the same age group.
Children and/or their parents shall be provided with information appropriate to their age and understanding.
Children and/or their parents shall be able to participate in all decisions involving their health care and shall be provided with the relevant information for making decisions.
Children shall be treated with tact and understanding, and their privacy shall be respected . Children shall be protected from unnecessary medical treatment and shall be given aid in the prevention and relief of physical and emotional distress.
Children shall be able to wear their own clothes whenever possible and have their own personal possessions.
Children shall be in an environment that is furnished and equipped for their requirements. The setting for the care of children shall conform to recognized standards of safety and supervision.
