EBCT Heartscan

Early Detection of Heart Disease Can Save Lives
Coronary artery disease is the number 2 killer in Hong Kong. For many people the first and only symptom of coronary artery disease is a fatal heart attack. In fact, one third of people who die from a first heart attack had few or no early warning signs.

What is the EBCT heart scan?
The EBCT heart scan is one of the most advanced scanners in the world. It detects the amount of calcified plaque in the arteries of the heart; the more calcified plaque, the greater the risk of a heart attack.

How does it work?
The EBCT heatscan uses electron beams to take cross-sectional photographs of the arteries. It is more than 10 times faster than a conventional CT scan, literally taking pictures between heart beats, which results in a clearer image.

What does the procedure involve?
The test is simple and painless, involving no needles or injections. The non-invasive procedure means that you remain clothed during the test. You simply lie on the table and hold your breath for a few seconds while the picture is taken. The entire procedure takes about 15 minutes to complete.

Consider having a EBCT heart scan if you have one or more of the following heart disease risk factors:

  • male aged 40 and above or female aged 45 and above
  • smoking
  • high cholesterol level
  • inactive lifestyle
  • family history of heart disease
  • hypertension
  • overweight
  • diabetes
