Antenatal Parentcraft Classes
Our aim is to prepare future parents for the later stages of pregnancy and becoming a parent. We offer a course of six classes conducted by a team of healthcare professionals
Week One
- course introduction
- your requests and expectations
- the last months of pregnancy, relieving discomforts
- exercise for posture and back care
- overview of the stages and signs of labour
- Video-Birth of the baby
Week Two
- What to do when labour begins and when to go to hospital
- admission to the hospital and your care during the first stage of labour
- breathing and relaxation techniques, positions for labour and childbirth, heat and massage therapy
Week Thre
- Medical methods of pain relief (Anaethetist)
- Tens, pethidine, entonox, epidural
- Natural methods of coping with delivery
- Tour of meternity ward
Week Four
- Review:
- What happens immediately after the baby's birth (third stage of labour)
- birth plan
- different types of delivery
- induction of labour
- Caesarian section, forceps delivery, ventouse
- Birth registration, passport, citizenship and visas
Week Five
Week Six
- After the baby is born- your physical and emotional changes, what happens in hospital and in the first few weeks
- where to get help? coping with the demands of parenthood
- postnatal depression
- contraception and sexual relations
- Travelling with your baby
- Sudden infant death syndrome
- further questions and feedback
There is time for discussion in each class, no question is too trivial, what may concern you may also concen others in class. Feel free to prepare a list of questions.
Classes are available in English, Cantonese and Japanese. Private antenatal classes can be arranged on request.
Complimentary light refreshments are provided.

Venue
Some classes are moved to Matilda Medical Centre, Suite 2601, No. 9 Queen's Road Central.
