| Commitment to Patients
The management and staff of MIH are firmly committed to providing high quality hospital services. If you have any comments or suggestions regarding our services please contact our Client Relations Manager who will acknowledge receipt on the next working day.
As a patient of MIH you are entitled to:
- Receive treatment without discrimination
as to race, colour, religion, sex, disability, or sexual orientation.
- Receive considerate and respectful
care in a clean and safe environment free of unnecessary restraints.
- Request a nurse escort during consultation
or examination by your doctor.
- Be informed of the name
and position of the doctor who will be responsible for your
care in the hospital.
- Know the names, positions and functions
of the hospital staff involved in your care, and refuse their
treatment, examination or observation, if you so choose.
- Receive information about your diagnosis,
treatment and prognosis.
- Receive the information that you need
to give informed consent to any proposed procedure or treatment.
This information shall include the risks and benefits of the
procedure or treatment.
- Refuse treatment, and to be told what
effect this may have on your health.
- Refuse participation in teaching programmes.
- Privacy while in the hospital, and
confidentiality of information and records regarding your
care.
- Participate in decisions about your
treatment and eventual discharge from the hospital.
- Review your medical record without
charge, and obtain a copy of your medical record for which
MIH can charge a reasonable fee.
- Be informed of any public health measures taken by the hospital to protect your health.
- Receive an itemised bill and explanation
of charges on request. Before any treatment begins you may
ask for detailed costs.
- Complain without fear of reprisals
about the care and services you are receiving and to have
a staff member of MIH respond to
you.
- Authorise family members (and other
adults who will be given priority) to visit, consistent with
your ability to receive visitors.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS A PATIENT
As a client at MIH,
you have the right to be treated with care, consideration
and dignity. Just as you have rights, you also have responsibilities:
- You are advised to discuss with your
doctor any problems which you feel may be affecting your health
or medical condition.
- You should answer questions about your
health frankly and honestly.
- To discuss with MIH and your doctors the expeced charges for treatment before admission
