An effective
implementation plan and measures ensures safety for patients
and staff
Matilda International Hospital has been awarded the silver
trophy in the "2005 Safety Management System Award -
Others", by the Occupational Safety and Health Council.
This is the first time a hospital has been merited with such
a prestigious award. This accomplishment demonstrates outstanding
achievements in Occupational Health and Safety through effective
implementation of the hospital's Health and Safety Management
System.
For outstanding performance and demonstrating
a good safety record over the last three years, the Hospital
was also awarded the "2005 - Safety Performance Award
- Others",
Organized by the Occupational Safety
and Health Council, this annual event gives recognition to
selected companies for their remarkable achievements and outstanding
safety performance in minimizing accident rates. It also provides
a platform to members of various industries to exchange experience
and best practices in occupational safety and health.
At the event ceremony the hospital
was awarded the silver in the "Best Presentation Award"
for its creative and entertaining PPE (Protective Personal
Equipment) dance presentation.
Ms Linda Wills, General Manager, Clinical
Governance of Matilda International Hospital said, "Resources
and efforts made in relation to occupational health and safety
system should be treated as a wise investment by companies.
We place a lot of emphasis on health and safety and believe
that ensuring safety measures are implemented and upheld can
protect our staff as well as our patients."
To establish our safety management
system, the hospital has set up several committees to manage
health and safety issues with representatives from senior
management and all departments. Job hazards are identified
and evaluated through a risk assessment mechanism and controls
are implemented. Operations are governed by codes of practice,
and polices and procedures, which are continuously monitored
and audited both internally and externally. Continuing education
is given a high priority by all staff and many actively participate
in health promotion activities.
In 1999 MIH was the first private hospital
in Hong Kong to obtain the international quality management
standard ISO 9002 certification. In 2000 the hospital was
surveyed and received Trent Clinical Accreditation (UK) certification.
This was followed in 2002, by the implementation of an occupational
health and safety management system and the hospital was accredited
with OHSAS 18000. These measures go far beyond the standards
required by statutory regulation and the requirements of major
medical insurers. This demonstrates the hospitals commitment
to the long term welfare of the people of Hong Kong.
Matilda International Hospital is a
private, not for profit hospital committed to providing international
standards and excellence in care to the people of Hong Kong
and Asia.
