Welcoming a new family member is always such an intimately precious moment for both parents, some of whom may be embracing this with a mix of curious trepidation and utter excitement.  That’s why it is very important to learn more about the hospital and its people. For what to look for when choosing a hospital, please click here.

The maternity unit at Matilda International Hospital (MIH) has always been highly and affectionately regarded by the local and international communities in Hong Kong.  Meanwhile, every nurse and midwife with the maternity unit respect and understand the unique needs of both new and experienced parents, and are always there to render personalized support, guidance, and encouragement.

For couples who are contemplating to make a maternity booking, here are a few useful tips on the booking process.  First of all, obstetricians with admission privileges to practise at MIH will help their patients make all the arrangements.  The hospital will handle the booking request with the practitioners as they will submit certain prerequisite medical information with the request. Booking quotas are allocated to these recognized obstetricians, and they are aware of the number of bookings the hospital can accept from them each month.   If the request is all in order, the maternity unit will revert to the patient directly with a Provisional Acceptance Letter (Maternity) and the patient must remember to pay a maternity booking deposit within 14 days from the date of issue of the letter. As with our usual practice, if the deposit is not received within the prescribed period, the provisional booking will automatically be cancelled.

Regarding the booking quotas, these are allotted as MIH needs to manage the bookings in ways that enable the hospital to maintain the highest level of safety and care for mothers and babies at all times. Other than availability for the obvious bed space, the hospital must take into consideration facilities for delivery, the need for any urgent medical care, as well as postnatal care.  Managing maternity bookings, therefore, encompasses wide considerations.  The system is reviewed and monitored regularly to maximize the efficiency and safety of the unit, and we aim to maintain the same number of deliveries this year as 2012.

Finally, a word about the hospital’s general plans.  MIH has an international reputation as one of the Most Beautiful Hospitals in the World – even after a century of providing care.  To maintain the high level of personal comfort and the advanced standard of facilities and equipment, there are necessary ongoing improvement works.
