VaxigripTetra influenza vaccine is now available at the Outpatient Department, Matilda Medical Centre and Matilda Clinic – Caine Road. It contains the recommended composition of the influenza vaccine for the 2018-2019 northern hemisphere influenza season, offering protection against two A strains and two B strains of viruses.
It is indicated for adults and children from 6 months of age. Children less than 9 years of age who have not been previously vaccinated should receive two doses of the vaccine, at least 4 weeks apart.
Seasonal influenza, usually more prevalent between January to March and July to August in Hong Kong, is a respiratory tract infection caused by influenza viruses. Seasonal influenza is generally self-limiting for healthy individuals who recover in 2-7 days. However, influenza can cause serious illness, complications and even death, especially in the elderly, young children, pregnant women and those with certain chronic medical conditions.
Influenza vaccination is effective in preventing influenza and reducing influenza-associated complications. A routine annual influenza vaccination is recommended for individuals aged 6 months and above who do not have contraindications.
